President Hakainde Hichilema officially opens EU-Zambia Lobito Corridor Business Forum

President Hakainde Hichilema today officially opened the EU–Zambia Lobito Business Forum at Ciela Resort in Lusaka, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to deepening partnerships that drive Zambia’s industrialisation and regional trade.

During the event, Head Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU), Ms. Kusobile Kamwambi, reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to moving from dialogue to delivery through the Lobito Corridor, describing it as “a transformative partnership that positions Zambia as a regional hub for trade, industrialisation, and inclusive growth.”

Ms. Kamwambi highlighted the Government’s milestones, from the 2023 Tripartite Transit Transport Agreement to the 2025 approval of the feasibility study and the upcoming groundbreaking of the Zambia–Lobito Railway in 2026.

She said the Lobito Corridor will link Zambia to global value chains, create jobs, and attract new investments in energy, transport, agriculture, and logistics.

And President Hakainde Hichilema visited the PDU exhibition stand, commending the team’s focus on delivery and urging for strategic interventions to address Zambia’s energy deficit as a key national priority.

The Forum, co-hosted by the Government and the European Union (EU), saw the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and digital skills, a strong step toward transforming the Lobito Corridor into a regional trade and investment hub.
